Description

Locations and water risk exposure for mining and metals facilities worldwide, from the International Council on Mining and Metals Global Mining Dataset version 1.5, released July 2026. The full dataset covers 12,000 mines, smelters, refineries, and plants across 148 countries, with 7,104 facilities publicly available. Facility locations are overlaid against global water risk indicators including baseline water stress, water depletion, drought risk, flood risk, and interannual variability, produced in partnership with WWF and the World Resources Institute. Used to examine how exposed the mineral supply chain behind the energy transition is to physical water constraints. Source: ICMM Global Mining and Metals Water Dataset, 2026.
